The Checkerboard
Children in Montessori Elementary classrooms will
love doing multiplication on these unique, handmade,
quilted mats. Unlike hard surface checkerboards, the
beads won’t roll — a definite advantage! Each mat
rolls and ties with a ribbon.
Use for short and long multiplication of whole
numbers (up to 100,000,000). There are 36 squares
in the hierarchical colors of green, blue, and red on a
black background. 28½" x 15½'". (Beads not included.)
From Great Extensions.
Please note: Lessons not included; please refer to
your Montessori Elementary training.

The Blue Number Counting Book
“Five ducklings are on the pond … Six flowerpots sit on the
steps … Seven candles shine on the birthday cake.” This unique
book helps children learn basic mathematical concepts by
using a tactile approach. By seeing, touching, and counting
the flocked pictures for each number, children associate
numbers with their quantities and learn their sequence.
Tracing the number shapes with the fingers is a valuable
preparation for writing numbers. Spiral-bound cardstock, 12
pages. Find the companion book, The Red Letter Alphabet
Book (L710) on page 26. It uses the same tactile approach
to help children in the first stages of reading. From Parent
Child Press. Ages 2–6.

Math Works 2nd Edition, Montessori
Math and the Developing Brain
When a parent asks why there is no math homework
or what the Table of Pythagoras has to do with
standardized testing, follow up your answer by lending
this articulate explanation. Montessorian Michael Duffy
offers concise, complete explanations of the Montessori
math materials, their purpose, and their classroom uses.
He also addresses topics of concern to parents, such
as homework, recent brain research, and standardized
testing. Additional material discusses Montessori math
and how it relates to Common Core standards. Photos,
charts, and diagrams make this an accessible guide
for everyone. From Parent Child Press. Paperback,
78 pages.

Bead Bar Box and Stamps
After working with the Montessori Bead Stair, children
can use these stamps to reinforce their understanding
of the numbers 1-10. Later, use for addition and
